World WEATHER MAPS – Ventusky Map

The Ventusky World Weather Map

Ventusky web map is a high quality application that clearly displays weather data from around the world and allows you to monitor the weather development for any place on earth.

Earth time functions as an interdependent system. For example, a hurricane in the Atlantic has the ability to influence the distribution of pressure formations in Europe. Occasionally, it may even arrive in Europe as a post-tropical storm. The Ventusky application allows you to illustrate the interdependence of the entire system, displaying on the map the trend of pressure, wind, cloud cover, precipitation and temperature.

The map of winds around the world

For wind data visualization, the Ventusy map uses current lines which are used to illustrate the movement of particles in liquids. Air and liquid have many similar physical properties and, as published by Fernanda Viégas and Martin Wattenber (Hint.fm, 2012), current lines are also suitable for illustrating wind. For this reason, the map depicts wonderful formations that illustrate the minimums of pressure that draw the air around them.

The wave map of the world

The Ventusky map uses a completely new wave visualization system. Through the use of animated arcs, the visualization clearly differentiates the direction of movement and the height of both wind and wave waves.

World map of precipitation, atmospheric pressure and temperatures

For the other meteorological elements, color scales were chosen that appropriately illustrate precipitation, atmospheric pressure and temperature. The colors correspond to the sensation that the given meteorological phenomenon evokes in us. For temperature, blue indicates cool weather while dark red represents hot desert air. For precipitation, they focused on the danger associated with it. The blue colors represent a total of low rainfall that will not result in flooding. Orange and red hues, on the other hand, are dangerous and can cause flooding.

Ventusky’s world weather map

The name of the map: Ventusky, is a combination of two words. The first is the Latin word, Ventus, which means wind, and the second is the English word, Sky.

The Ventusky world map is accessible to anyone around the world, aimed at improving awareness of weather events in our atmosphere.

Sources of the Ventusky map

The main provider of meteorological data for Ventusky is DWD and NOAA. However, the radar layers have several other country-specific sources.
